psstoff995 wrote:Wow looking great!! I like the roof- not sure if it's the lighting or the angle but it looks very... bright? Not sure if that's the word. Almost like raw wood in some places and a light stain in others. Not sure if that was the final look or if it's been painted or anything- the scale looks great the texture looks great (I really like how it looks in the background of the other picture. I think it's just the color in that pic that I'm having a hard time with. Not sure how you wanted it to look or if you'll weather it and make it a gray brownish old wood look or something. I think that's the only negative aspect of it from where I'm sitting just looks too new. It'd see a lot more rain, heat, wear ,and tear than floorboards but it looks to have the same finish you know? But speaking of floors you really got it down. You have a very small learning curve from building 1 to building 3 I forget this is your first jab at urban settings you're really getting into a good swing Chris, missed this post some how...thanks for the critique! The roof does not have finished paint on it...was wondering about scale and design...in fact nothing is finished really...I'm sure you take that in account....everything will look good and weathered in the end...thanks again and sorry to have missed this!

Not a problem and in that case, like I figured, you're dead on! The scale and design looks awesome to me :) Looking forward to the weathering.

Sterno wrote:I am a little discouraged on this one due to a comment made by one of our own here a HLI over at FSM; Are the blown up ruins overdone? have I just wasted my time on a subject that is so common? Thanks guys!
Sure it might be a subject that is common- I mean every Verlindin box art and their how to books features 90% if not more of their kits in an urban destruction scene. But there's a reason, it's dynamic it's not something you see every day when you drive down the highway or stroll down the street and if you think about it- with almost 3 million tons of allied bombs dropped on Europe alone- getting discouraged about building destroyed cities depicting WWII would be like getting discouraged about building trenches depicting WWI or building urban middle eastern buildings depicting modern combat. It's what defines the genre in my opinion. And even if everyone else does destroyed buildings and ruins in WWII cities- you never have before. So why not try your hand at it? It's looking great! You have some very dynamic angles and the figures are going to draw the eyes all around- I can't wait to see it come alive. If you're still not convinced- Think about it like this... how many horrible old cheesy Batman movies have you seen? The TV shows and the films in the 60's through the 90's Batman movies were all bad puns, goofy "effects", leotards and BOOM POW graphics- sure it was the norm and it was great for the time. But if Christopher Nolan's producers had never backed him because "Everyone makes a Batman movie- I mean hey who wants to see another round of Arnold's "let's kick some ice" lines with buddy buddy Batman and Robin swinging around on zip lines over a neon painted sound stage???" where would we be now? I know a lot of remakes are all groans and lack of imagination on Hollywood's part but the new Batman series was a game changer. Sure, the subject may be over done. And... sure- I might understand if you had like nine or ten dios that were all variations of blown up European street scenes, but this is something new and I'm enjoying seeing your spin on it. Especially since it's all from scratch! The terracotta looks great btw. I think the metal roof was done well, but I agree with Tom- it's just out of place. I love the floral wallpaper and that hanging ceiling section is the coolest thing I've seen in a looong time. Just show me another dio with features like that that are done all the time with indepth WIPs???

I must say mate, I bow down to your awesome abilities. I am just starting out building diorama's, instead of just the models, and I am absorbing everything i can from builders such as yourself.
I am wondering if you have a photobucket site or similar where you have more of your work to admire and help me out.
