Hey fellas! First of all, sorry I have been a little out of the loop lately...I apologize to those I have not posted comments to. Anyway, I thought I would post this build to coincide with the kick off of the dio contest. I had been dabbling with this for a few weeks so I couldnt meet the parameters for the contest...Not alot done obviously so bear with me as my time at the bench is limited due to Max0!! It will be a small french village scenerio..other than that it's up in the air. Most of all I wanted to try to create a building...we will see... I also included a pic of the trophies from the Old Dominion Open that was held at the end of Feb, and the THREE models I won at the raffle...6 bucks for 5 tickets and won 3...The stash has returned!!! The construction is foam board and sheetrock mud thus far...split matchsticks for floorboards..ALL comments and critiques welcome!

Great job Steve-O!! ... and I agree ... Frozen Hell and your Beach Bunker should have done WAY better than 3rd ... but I guess that's good enough when you're talking about the model contest held at the BLIND SCHOOL!!!! Nice start on your new one ... wish you could have meet the contest, but I'll be watching this one none-the-less!!! How's little Steve-O?

Glad Max0s doing well- hope you and your family are enjoying Easter- very nice looking building so far, I love the torn up floor boards, you're inspiring me to get started on my building's 2nd floor! And great job with the stash win!! That Firefly should be a good one, I'm sure the plane and ship will be good too but I don't know much about em Not bad at all for $6 worth of tickets! Was the raffle at the Old Dominion show? Maybe thats why you got 3rd place to game pieces- 3 new kits?? They thought you rigged it!

Game pieces ... seriously ... ... Well. I guess the gig's up ... time to be truthful ... HAHAHHAHAHAH!!!!! J/K buddy ... Somedays it just doesn't pay to even enter the contest. Glad to "stole" some stuff from the raffle though.

Sterno wrote:I saw yours and noticed how precise and refined it was and almost threw mine out...I hope I can reach that level... Whaaaaat?! lol one day you too Steve can spend $20 on a few plaster walls and $10 on balsa (which is hard to do when they cost $.23 or $.41 each) My building looks like it's ready to hit the market- yours looks like it's been through a war Believe me if I was at your level when it comes to scratch building I would take foam and Sheetrock any day over the Verlinden kit. Number one reason being weight. Mine is one floor high and I'm already scared that despite the Liquid Nails, the glue, the acrylic gel, and the superglue- this one floor is going to fall off and explode, let alone the second floor which must rest solely on the first. You have the base of your building set. From what I can tell- all you have to do would be some sanding to refine the edges in places where the mud is a little thick and rounded- then poof! -not only would you have precise refined corners, you'd have something sturdy that's already tall enough and supporting a second floor! If you're worried about the floor boards not looking right or being out of line- clearly this house has seen better days, and it was probably built in the 20s or 30's- hardly the era of mass production 2x4s and Home Depot... you got a lot more character in this one than I do. And for what? Probably a fraction of the cost- I could have spend $30 on a tank lol and since it looks like you're adding another building- you don't have to worry as much about cost- that'd be two $20 kits for me! And you don't have to worry at all about getting a building that fits the sizes of these two- yours will be the right size and you don't have to a)saw through a $20 kit to make it fit or b) change the base/layout to fit the thing in because you couldn't bring yourself to do A! lol I'd love the freedom of scratching my own building. Now then... teach me how to rig a raffle!

Well if you put it that way Chris..... Thanks for the vote of confidence! Thats one thing I can say, It didnt cost me a penny!!! Looks now...we will see! I dabbled a little with some masking tape wall papper last night..again we will see. AS I told Tom, "Sucker Play" will become clearer as I progress..you guys may even figure it out sooner..Not to be secretive...I have some details to work out before I am clear on it as usual. As far as the raffle goes, I've never won a damn thing in my life and was thrilled to bring home a few kits..Some guys bought boat loads of tickets and won boat loads of models...I think the kits, which were donated, were so numerous that you had a pretty good chance of winning something...I just got lucky for once!

Masking tape wallpaper makes more sense to me than the tissue paper I was about to dunk in white glue- thanks for saving me a sloppy mess! Guess I'll have to find a raffle where there's more prizes than tickets!

Here is my first attempt at wallpaper. Masking tape and a little paint applied with a rubber stamp appropriated from my wife...shhhhhh! I will add a little more detail to finish it off..

That's awesome!! I was wondering if I could do a floral print but after seeing this done with the rubber stamp I don't think my freehand could match up at all! Very nice work with the masking tape- I've papered my walls with it, just need to paint and then I'll be almost finished with the 1st floor That's really looking good- don't know how I missed the update

Thanks Chris! I tried to put the pattern on free hand, but it looked to big...rummaged through mama's stash and found the stamp...I had to butcher it to make it work.. Been getting some late night action on this and will have a larger update soon. Thanks for looking!

Wow it's getting better and better- really like that wood color and the chared burned look you've got going on, the wall paper peeling is amazing- that looks real torn up in a good way. (hmmmm maybe I'm glad you didn't enter into the dio contest)

This is pretty good Steve-O!!! .... A little too good ... (I'm sneaking over to your place right now to break your hands!) HAHAHAHAHAH!!!! The wallpaper looks FA-BOO-LOUS! I like the windows and the weathering so far .... the only thing I'd say is that the window pieces look like they're tinted. Not sure if I lik'em for not. If possible, maybe do one more mockup w/ clear windows and give them a quick spray of highly thinned tan for a "dirty" look. Maybe it's jus the light though .... Regardless, nice start.

Thats what I needed Scott! I actually used foil tape washed in black in hopes that it would catch light and create the illusion of glass...even clear, which is what I may do, it is going to be smoked up real good anyway...it was worth a try...I was a real beech not to crinckle the tape up too...Thanks for the feedback!
