Thanks a lot John, wiewiorka, and Mark glad you guys are enjoying it so far. I've started in on the decals with help from clear coats and future, my most successful decals to date (not saying much with my past history of silvered, wrinkled and ripped failures haha) What's with the name Shell/Carl? I usually call you Carl, unless it just rolls off the keyboard as Shell... now I'm wondering if I should do both! haha jk Thanks, I'm a little upset that I didn't have any driver/radioman figures or I would have opened up the large front hatches to show it off. Some of it's visible through the large open top but never again in so much clarity as that overhead shot. So glad you enjoyed it! I don't know if I'm hankering hot dogs or peaches now! lol thanks RD :)

This is the AFV kit, right? How is it as far as fit and such? I built the Academy kit with some PE for the interior. Went together fairly well but the fit at the upper and lower hull pieces wasn't very good. Also the .50 cal really needed to be replaced in mine. Had those crappy vinyl tracks too.

Yeah Will it's been finished where have you been? Hey John yeah it's the AFV kit, I've never had good luck with Academy when it comes to scale thickness/weapon accuracy or figures. The AFV kit looks pretty similar though from what I can tell (any pictures of yours around here somewhere?) The fit was pretty decent, a little tricky with the upper and lower, could have been better if I had forced it but figured I'd let it sit natural and then fill the gap up front. It looks like a... real bad weld job some first time housewife attempted back in the states before Rosie got good with her rivet gun, that's my excuse anyway! The rest of the fit is fine, the turrets a little snug but good. AFV is pretty good with weapons, the .50 cal looks fine to me, also came with some links. The tracks aren't vinyl, they're some kind of glue-able something or another, but they're very very... don't want to say thin because they look to scale, but they feel very thin, like if I pulled a little hard on em they'd snap like a rubber band. I think they'll look ok on the finished build. I'm going to dirty them up enough at least. And it's not a German tank so the return rollers will take care of the lack of slack.

One negative with the kit I forgot was the total lack of useful painting directions for the interior- I made a lot of it up as I went along probably pretty inaccurate on my part

Drivers compartment back to the step up to the deck plate is white. From the step back should be same as the hull color due to the open turret. Looks like the AFV kit has the spare ammo racks pretty good. The Academy kit has them and the rounds molded in. I was going to cut them off and fiddle up something but just didn't feel like doing it as they are really hard to see and my skills pretty much suck in that area. I did add some PE screens and cut off the grab handles on the hull and replaced them with wire.

Oh cool, yeah the directions said interior: green or white- and that was it! I figured the visible stuff would be green for arial view but didn't want the whole interior to be monotone. Guess the M18 Artistic-interest Officer was on his A game back in the 40s lol I added in a few rounds to the ammo rack but you can't see much of em unless you reaally look I'm sure your exterior looks much better with the details- one reason I was pushed out of lazy arse mode and added all the stowage was I wound up breaking most of my turret hook/handles getting them off the sprue. I could have really benifited with some pe screens though.. Didn't think of that and this was really just a straight OOB weekend build haha Decals are done and actually looking pretty good- a first for me! Thank you Future and all who have suggested it!!

Back at my Dad's house last night figured I'd bring back the "scale reference" to show you guys the wheels are ready to be attached! It's hard to see with my cell phone picture but the rubber is painted with a mix of black and brown paint- a gray black/NATO black color will be used once I attach the wheels for dry-brushing/highlights and the wheels will recieve the same oil weathering as the rest of the tank. I will post pictures of the decals tonight after my PoliSci Class (8pm-ish)

Thanks James- it's tricky keeping a monotone paint job like this interesting so I'm glad the different greens appear to be doing the trick nope new dog Carl, that first picture was taken on the weekend of the 4th, so it'd be a month old and with no more bite taken out of it! From what I can tell both companies have strong and weak points with their version, I've had better luck with AFV over Academy in the past so that's why I chose this one. Glad you enjoyed the kit- this is my favorite of the three big American TDs of WWII, the Jackson and the M10 have some strange proportions and odd shapes in places, this one just looks right lol Thanks John, I'm fighting logistics at this point trying to get the pictures I've taken (on a camera at my moms house) on to the internet (over at my dads lol), I made a mock up of a diorama idea for it but with the figure kits I'm using I've got conflicting story lines and will have to try out a few more options I think...

Carl wrote:A new dog ? It looked kinda old and dry in the pic . Yeah I had to reheat the dog when I got home from workThose are my favorite TD's also .......... we need a thumbs up smiley!! Haha Here's a mockup The troops are 101st Airborne alongside the 705th TD Batalion in defense of Bastogne. The problem is the troops as you can see are very action oriented but the Hellcat crew is relaxed and Hellcat tactics were to use there speed to fly around the battlefield and engage armor- not chill at an intersection and let the Airborne run by. I'm thinking about keeping the dio as is but using an M4 instead then just have the Hellcat without infantry with the crew in relaxed poses..
